
Virginia McNamee, DVM
Dr. Virginia McNamee decided she wanted to be a veterinarian at a very young age. Most of her childhood was spent in Raleigh, NC. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University. She joined Steele Creek Animal Hospital in May 2006 and is enjoying life in Charlotte.
All aspects of veterinary medicine excite Dr. McNamee, particularly cardiology, internal medicine, surgery and community outreach. She loves spending time with her husband, Daniel, daughter, Riley and two dogs, Dakota and Lilly. She also enjoys camping, hiking, Virginia Tech football, bluegrass music, cooking and gardening.

Johanna Clark, DVM
Dr. Johanna (Jo) Clark is a North Carolina native raised in Wilson. She received her BS in Animal Science from North Carolina State University and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined the Steele Creek Animal Hospital staff in June 1998. She has 4 dogs - Chunky, Brutus, Sage and Roxy - who require a lot of attention. She enjoys reading and spending time with her husband, Sean. Jo's special interests in veterinary medicine include oncology, neurology, and general medicine.

Patricia N. Young, DVM, CVA, CCRP
Dr. Patricia Young is a native of the Steele Creek community, a graduate of Olympic High School, and a life long member of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. She attended Meredith College majoring in Chemistry and Biology and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia. Dr. Young completed a small animal medicine and surgery clinical internship at the University of Illinois prior to entering private practice in Laurel, Maryland. In 1984, she returned to her home community to establish Steele Creek Animal Hospital, where she continues her work as a staff doctor as well as Hospital Administrator. Dr. Young is very fond of the friendships she has made with clients and patients through the years and has been most appreciative of the community's support.
Dr. Young's keen interest in geriatric medicine and pain management led her to return to the classroom in 2004 for advanced training in medical acupuncture and physical rehabilitation. She completed her certification in acupuncture at Colorado State University in 2004 and her rehabilitation certification at University of Tennessee in 2005. Dr. Young now also directs the Companion Animal Rehabilitation Services at Steele Creek. Other areas of professional interest include dentistry and internal medicine.
Dr. Young and her husband, Terry Herrington, share their home with one Irish Setter, three Great Danes, a cat, and two horses. To re-energize, Dr. Young enjoys time with her pets, camping, hiking, horseback riding, canoeing and getting away to the mountains.

Melinda Whitaker, DVM
Dr. Melinda Whitaker joined the Steele Creek Animal Hospital staff in June 2002. She received a BA in Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill, attended NCSU as an undergraduate, and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from NCSU in May 1997.
Originally from northeastern North Carolina, Dr. Whitaker practiced in the Raleigh area for several years before moving to Charlotte. She enjoys all aspects of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Whitaker's family includes husband Doug, children Andrew and Erin, 2 cats, Polka Dots and Boo, a gerbil named Gerry, and a gold fish. She enjoys watching her kids play sports, spending time with her family, camping, strength training and reading.

Desiree Seibt Judy, DVM
Dr. Desiree Seibt Judy grew up in our area and graduated from Clover High School. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from Clemson University and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia. She practiced in Dacula, Georgia before joining Steele Creek Animal Hospital in October 2006. Dr. Judy enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling with her husband, Ben, and her pug, Lexi. She also has three cats, Simon, Ivan, and Gus.

Heidi Hutmaker, DVM, CVA
Dr. Hutmaker was born in Minneapolis, but grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating with a degree in Biology from Kansas State University, she graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota in 2002. Dr. Hutmaker became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA) at the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and is currently pursuing Chinese herbal certification. She recently completed her course work at the Canine Rehabilitation Institute to become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT). Dr. Hutmaker's professional interests include behavior, nutrition, internal medicine, pain management, and integrating both Western and Eastern veterinary medicine.
Dr. Hutmaker and her husband, Jesse, enjoy traveling, hiking, the arts, and spending time with friends. They currently have five kids to call their own: two dogs, Holden and Hayden;, two cats, Pixie and Capone, and a Netherland Dwarf rabbit named Tweek.

Amy Auwarter, DVM
Dr. Amy Auwarter was born and raised in Athens, Georgia. After graduating from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, she completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at SouthPaws in the DC area. She completed training in Veterinary Acupuncture in 2008, spent two years working in emergency medicine, and joined the team at Steele Creek Animal Hospital in 2009. Her professional interests include emergency medicine, internal medicine, geriatric care and integrative medicine.
Dr. Auwarter enjoys traveling, yoga, biking, hiking, cooking and spending time with her beloved dog, Violet.
